1. GuideMeet’s Trust and Safety Approach
GuideMeet helps Travelers discover and communicate with professional local Guides with more information and confidence.
We support trust through profile approval, verification signals where available, eligible reviews, professional communication tools, reporting, blocking, moderation, Guide Network safeguards and layered protection for publicly displayed images.
No online platform can eliminate every risk. GuideMeet’s tools provide information and safeguards, but they do not replace careful decision-making, current official advice or emergency services.
2. Important: GuideMeet Is Not an Emergency Service
If there is an immediate threat to life, safety or property, contact the appropriate local police, medical, fire, rescue or other emergency authority first.
Do not wait for GuideMeet to respond before seeking emergency assistance. GuideMeet does not continuously monitor messages, locations, trips or user activity and may not be able to respond immediately or verify conditions in real time.
For incidents in Nepal, Travelers may also consult the current official contact information published by Nepal Tourist Police. Emergency numbers and services can change, so confirm them through an official government source before travel.
3. How GuideMeet Approaches Trust
GuideMeet is more than a basic Guide listing directory. We want Travelers to understand who a Guide is, where the Guide works, what the Guide knows and how the Guide communicates before deciding whether to proceed.
A Guide Profile may show:
- Guide category and professional role;
- destinations and route or place knowledge;
- languages;
- specialties and travel styles;
- professional experience;
- photographs and an intro video where available;
- Guide Insights;
- eligible reviews;
- response and activity information;
- verification signals where available;
- Consultation or Service availability where enabled; and
- mutually approved professional collaboration information.
These elements help Travelers compare Guides. No single profile field, badge, review or ranking should be treated as a guarantee.
4. Public Image Safety and Protection
GuideMeet uses layered image protection for publicly displayed images. These measures identify GuideMeet as the hosting platform, reduce casual misuse, protect sensitive source files and support investigations into unauthorized reuse.
These controls do not make downloading, screenshots or copying impossible. GuideMeet does not claim that public images can be completely protected from reuse.
4.1 Images Covered
Protection applies to public copies of:
- Guide Profile gallery images;
- Guide Profile cover images;
- Guide Service or package images;
- Guide Insight images; and
- other future public Guide content.
For profile avatars, GuideMeet may omit the visible watermark or use a very small version because avatars are often displayed at small sizes.
GuideMeet does not publicly watermark or expose:
- identity documents;
- licences and certificates;
- verification photographs;
- report evidence;
- private-message attachments;
- consultation documents;
- payment documents; or
- images marked private.
4.2 Public Image Processing
GuideMeet processes uploaded images before public display. The process may include:
- validating the format, MIME type, dimensions and file size;
- checking for malware and malformed files;
- applying the correct EXIF orientation;
- storing the encrypted original in private storage;
- stripping original metadata from the processing copy;
- generating fixed public image sizes;
- adding an appropriate visible GuideMeet watermark;
- adding a signed, opaque platform asset identifier after resilience testing;
- compressing the image into an appropriate JPEG, WebP or AVIF format;
- adding approved rights metadata; and
- storing the public derivative for CDN delivery.
The original upload must never have a publicly accessible URL. GuideMeet does not provide a “view original” endpoint.
4.3 Visible GuideMeet Watermark
Public images may include a visible GuideMeet watermark with these general characteristics:
- GuideMeet logo;
- bottom-right placement by default;
- adaptive white or dark version;
- approximately 8–12% of the image width;
- approximately 40–60% opacity;
- safe margins from the image edge; and
- positioning that avoids faces and important information where reasonably possible.
For very small images, GuideMeet may omit the visible watermark when it would become unreadable.
The watermark identifies GuideMeet as the hosting platform. It does not state or imply:
- “Verified by GuideMeet”;
- “GuideMeet Approved”;
- “GuideMeet Certified”; or
- “© GuideMeet”.
GuideMeet does not identify itself as the copyright owner unless it actually owns the applicable image.
4.4 Signed Invisible Asset Identifier
After resilience testing, GuideMeet may embed a signed, opaque asset token in public image derivatives. A token may use a format such as:
GM1:{public_asset_token}:{signature}
For example:
GM1:7F82A91C:4D29
The token is linked internally to the image-asset record and must not contain personal information. The signature is generated using an HMAC-based server secret so that third parties cannot create valid GuideMeet identifiers.
GuideMeet will test recovery after:
- 50–90% JPEG compression;
- WebP and AVIF conversion;
- 25–75% resizing;
- moderate cropping;
- screenshots;
- brightness and contrast changes;
- minor filters; and
- social-media recompression.
If the identifier does not survive agreed test thresholds, GuideMeet will not describe it publicly as a reliable ownership-protection mechanism.
4.5 Metadata and Privacy
GuideMeet strips original public-copy metadata before publication, including:
- GPS coordinates;
- camera serial numbers;
- device-owner information;
- private filenames;
- contact details;
- embedded thumbnails; and
- editing history.
GuideMeet may then add controlled IPTC/XMP rights information, such as:
- Creator: [Photographer, if supplied and verified]
- Copyright Notice: [Actual rights holder, if known]
- Credit Line: Displayed via GuideMeet
- Source: GuideMeet
- Image Unique ID: [Opaque public asset token]
- Usage Terms: Reuse may require permission from the applicable rights holder.
The applicable rights holder may be the Guide, a photographer, another person or organization, or an unknown rights holder. GuideMeet does not claim ownership merely because it hosts or processes an image.
4.6 Storage and Delivery
GuideMeet maintains separate storage classes.
Private originals
- encrypted original upload;
- no public access; and
- authorized backend access only.
Public renditions
- resized and sanitized;
- visible and, where enabled, invisible platform identifiers;
- controlled rights metadata;
- no sensitive original metadata; and
- CDN delivery.
Typical public sizes may include:
- Thumbnail: 320px;
- Card: 640px;
- Profile: 1280px; and
- Large view: maximum 1920px.
Public image URLs must not expose sequential database IDs.
GuideMeet does not provide a public original-image endpoint.
4.7 CDN and WAF Controls
GuideMeet may use CDN and Web Application Firewall controls to:
- rate-limit excessive image downloads;
- detect sequential profile harvesting;
- block abusive user agents and IP addresses;
- challenge suspicious automated requests;
- prevent access to private storage;
- restrict excessive hotlinking;
- log downloads and suspicious patterns; and
- temporarily block repeated violations.
These controls are intended to limit abusive automated access, not to prevent normal browsing or legitimate search indexing.
4.8 Search Indexing and robots.txt
GuideMeet may use robots.txt for crawler management, not as a security control. Private directories must also be technically inaccessible.
An example configuration is:
User-agent: Googlebot-Image
Allow: /media/public/
User-agent: *
Disallow: /media/private/
Disallow: /media/originals/
Disallow: /verification/
Disallow: /reports/GuideMeet will not globally block Google Images where search visibility is part of its acquisition strategy.
Search visibility does not change the privacy status of restricted content. Private images and sensitive documents must not be placed in public storage or made accessible through predictable URLs.
4.9 Right-Click and Image Dragging
GuideMeet does not disable right-click globally. Such controls are easily bypassed and may interfere with accessibility and normal browser functionality.
GuideMeet may optionally disable image dragging as a casual deterrent, for example:
<img
src="/media/public/example.webp"
alt="Guide in Kathmandu"
draggable="false"
/>The watermark, protected originals, sanitized derivatives, hashing and CDN/WAF controls provide more meaningful protection.
4.10 Image Records and Hashing
GuideMeet maintains an image-asset record that may include:
- asset ID;
- opaque public token;
- uploader user ID;
- optional Guide Profile ID;
- content type;
- original storage key;
- optional rights-holder name;
- optional creator name;
- rights status;
- original SHA-256 hash;
- perceptual hash;
- watermark version;
- invisible signature;
- metadata-sanitized timestamp;
- processed timestamp;
- publication timestamp;
- deletion timestamp;
- creation timestamp; and
- update timestamp.
Hashing may help identify duplicate or materially similar images, investigate unauthorized reuse and maintain processing records. A hash does not prevent copying by itself.
Sequential database IDs must not be exposed in public image URLs.
4.11 Deletion and Lifecycle
When an image is deleted, GuideMeet will:
- immediately remove it from the relevant public Guide content;
- invalidate or purge public CDN copies;
- mark the asset as deleted;
- remove the private original according to the applicable retention schedule;
- preserve it only where required for an active report, dispute, legal hold or security investigation; and
- record the deletion in the audit log.
Account closure triggers the same process for applicable public images.
4.12 Upload Notice and Rights Confirmation
GuideMeet displays the following notice directly below the image uploader:
Public images may be resized, optimized and displayed with visible or invisible GuideMeet platform identifiers and standardized rights metadata. These measures identify GuideMeet as the hosting platform and help investigate unauthorized reuse. They do not transfer ownership of the image to GuideMeet or constitute verification or endorsement.
Users must confirm:
I confirm that I own this image or have the permissions and consents necessary to upload and publicly display it.
Guides must not upload personal documents, private evidence or another person’s image without the required permission and lawful basis.
4.13 Image Protection Rollout
GuideMeet will implement image protection in the following order:
- Update the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
- Add the upload notice and required rights confirmation.
- Build private-original and public-rendition storage.
- Implement metadata sanitization.
- Add visible watermarking.
- Add controlled IPTC/XMP rights metadata.
- Add hashes and image-asset records.
- Test invisible watermark technology.
- Enable invisible watermarking only after passing resilience testing.
- Configure CDN/WAF controls.
- Process new uploads.
- Notify existing Guides and regenerate existing public images after the updated Terms take effect.
This approach supports search visibility and accessibility while providing practical, legally clearer and technically defensible protection.
5. Guide Profile Approval
Every public Guide Profile is subject to approval before publication.
Basic profile approval may include reviewing:
- completion of required profile fields;
- whether the profile appears to represent a real person or authorized Guide organization;
- profile quality and internal consistency;
- Guide category and destination relevance;
- appropriate photographs and content;
- obvious misleading, prohibited or unsafe claims; and
- compliance with GuideMeet’s Platform rules.
A profile may be approved, rejected, delayed, restricted, suspended or returned for corrections.
Profile Approved means only that the profile passed the basic review applied at that time. It does not mean that GuideMeet independently verified every identity document, licence, credential, destination, qualification, insurance policy, review or professional statement.
6. Understanding GuideMeet Signals
GuideMeet uses different types of signals. They do not all mean the same thing.
6.1 Verified Guide
Where available, Verified Guide means that the Guide completed the applicable GuideMeet verification process and met the published criteria at the time of review.
Depending on the Guide’s country and category, the process may include review of identity information and, where applicable, professional licences, certifications, training, experience or other supporting evidence.
Verification processes differ because licensing systems and reliable records differ between countries and Guide categories. A paid subscription provides eligibility for verification where applicable; payment alone does not purchase or guarantee verification.
Verification does not guarantee current licensing after the review date, competence for every activity, insurance coverage, conduct, availability, safety, service quality or suitability for a particular Traveler.
6.2 Featured Guide
Featured Guide is a visibility or editorial signal. It is not a professional licence or an independent guarantee.
Eligibility may consider plan access, destination relevance, profile quality, verification standing where required, Guide Insights, reviews, response behavior and community standing. If a specific placement is sponsored or purchased, GuideMeet should label it clearly.
6.3 Destination Expert
Destination Expert indicates that an eligible Guide met GuideMeet’s published destination-knowledge criteria for the displayed destination.
It is not a government designation and does not imply expertise in every route, activity, season or risk condition within that destination.
6.4 Activity and Availability Signals
These signals describe current Platform activity or enabled features rather than identity or professional verification:
- Responds Fast;
- Accepts Consultations;
- Service Available;
- Open to Collaboration;
- Referral Friendly;
- Specialist Support Available;
- Language Support Available;
- Backup Support Available; and
- Works With Other Guides.
These signals may change as settings, activity, eligibility or feature availability changes.
6.5 Anchor Pricing
The Launch Anchor Offer is a commercial pricing offer for eligible early Guides. It is not a public trust badge and does not automatically grant Verified Guide, Featured Guide or Destination Expert status.
7. Reviews and Ratings
Reviews can help Travelers understand genuine experiences and interactions with Guides.
Where the review feature is enabled, GuideMeet may require an eligible completed interaction—such as a completed Consultation, Service or another approved eligibility event—before a review can be submitted.
GuideMeet reviews may address:
- safety and responsibility;
- expertise and local knowledge;
- communication; and
- hospitality and professionalism.
Reviews must be honest, relevant and based on a genuine eligible experience. GuideMeet does not permit fake, purchased, exchanged, manipulated or AI-fabricated reviews. An incentive must never be conditioned on a positive or negative rating, and any permitted material connection or incentive must be disclosed.
Public ratings should be calculated from published eligible reviews only. Reviews that are pending, hidden, removed or excluded under the review rules should not be included in the displayed rating.
A negative review is not removed merely because a Guide disagrees with it. Reviews may be moderated when they are fraudulent, irrelevant, abusive, privacy-invasive, unlawfully defamatory, submitted for the wrong profile or otherwise violate Platform rules.
8. Safer Communication
GuideMeet encourages Travelers and Guides to use GuideMeet Messages for eligible Platform communications.
Keeping relevant discussions in GuideMeet can provide a clearer record of:
- travel dates and destination requirements;
- group size and languages;
- Guide availability;
- meeting points;
- proposed scope and exclusions;
- Consultation or Service requests where enabled;
- Referral consent; and
- relevant status updates.
Conversations are not publicly visible. GuideMeet may use automated systems and authorized service providers to operate messaging, translation, security, fraud prevention and enabled assistance features. Authorized GuideMeet personnel may access message content where a conversation is reported, assigned or escalated, or where access is reasonably necessary for safety, support, legal compliance or investigation. Access is restricted and handled according to the Privacy Policy.
GuideMeet does not continuously monitor or ordinarily have personnel read every message merely because it is sent through the Platform. GuideMeet Messages should not be assumed to be end-to-end encrypted unless GuideMeet expressly states that a particular feature provides end-to-end encryption.
Users should not send passwords, one-time codes, complete payment-card information, unnecessary identification documents or unnecessary health information through messages.
9. Guide Network and Collaboration Safety
GuideMeet’s Guide Collaboration and Network module is permission-based.
- An approved Guide may send a structured connection request.
- Guide-to-Guide messaging is not available until the connection is accepted.
- Unconnected Guides cannot send Referrals or Collaboration Proposals.
- One professional relationship and Guide Collaboration conversation is maintained per Guide pair.
- A Guide may decline, disconnect, block or report another Guide.
- Paid plans do not bypass connection, privacy, anti-spam or safety controls.
A Guide’s complete private network, messages, Referrals, collaboration records and private notes are not publicly displayed.
The Works With Other Guides section may display up to the approved product limit of selected professional connections only when both Guides consent, the connection remains active, both profiles remain approved and neither Guide is restricted. Removing public-display permission removes the public connection without ending the private professional connection.
Public collaboration labels indicate availability or an approved relationship. They are not verification or popularity badges.
10. Traveler Referral Protection
A connected Guide may recommend another connected Guide, but identifying Traveler information must not be shared before the Traveler affirmatively agrees to the specific introduction.
Before consent, the receiving Guide may see only an anonymized requirement summary, such as:
- destination;
- approximate dates;
- group size;
- required language;
- required Guide category or specialty; and
- general travel requirements that do not reasonably reveal identity.
Before consent, GuideMeet must not disclose the Traveler’s name, email address, telephone number, passport information, payment information, health information, emergency contacts, private messages or exact accommodation details.
The Traveler may review the recommended Guide’s public profile and allow or decline the Referral. Declining or not responding does not create a new Inquiry and does not reveal the Traveler’s identity to the recommended Guide.
11. Payment and Scam Awareness
GuideMeet may process Guide subscription payments through approved payment providers. Unless GuideMeet expressly enables and identifies a Traveler payment feature, GuideMeet does not hold, protect, guarantee or escrow private payments between a Traveler and Guide or between Guides.
Be cautious if someone:
- pressures you to pay immediately;
- requests payment to a different or unexplained person;
- asks for passwords or authentication codes;
- sends an unexpected payment or refund link;
- claims a private payment is guaranteed or held by GuideMeet when the Platform does not show that status;
- requests cryptocurrency, gift cards or another unusual payment method without a clear legitimate reason;
- changes payment instructions unexpectedly; or
- discourages you from keeping a clear record of the arrangement.
Users may voluntarily exchange contact details for legitimate communication. Moving away from GuideMeet can reduce GuideMeet’s ability to review communications or assist with a report. Where a paid Platform transaction is later enabled, users must not move it off-platform to evade disclosed fees, refund procedures or safety controls.
Report suspicious payment requests before sending money where reasonably possible.
12. Blocking and Reporting
Travelers and Guides can use available tools to report concerning activity. Depending on the feature, you may report:
- a Guide Profile;
- a Traveler or Guide account;
- a message or conversation;
- a review;
- a Guide Insight or comment;
- a Service listing;
- a connection request;
- a Traveler Referral;
- a Collaboration Proposal;
- impersonation or false credentials;
- suspected fraud or payment pressure; or
- another safety or policy concern.
Common report reasons include:
- fake, misleading or impersonating profile;
- suspicious or fraudulent behavior;
- unsafe advice or concealed risk;
- harassment, threat or abusive communication;
- spam or unwanted promotion;
- false or expired credentials;
- misleading or outdated travel information;
- discrimination or exploitation;
- misuse of Traveler information;
- privacy or copyright violation; and
- off-platform payment pressure.
Blocking is designed to prevent future direct interaction. Depending on the relationship and feature, blocking may stop new messages, connection requests, Referrals and Collaboration Proposals. Historical records may remain available to the user or be preserved for moderation, safety, disputes and legal requirements.
Do not submit knowingly false, retaliatory or manipulated reports. A good-faith report does not violate the rules merely because GuideMeet cannot ultimately confirm the allegation.
13. What Happens After a Report
When possible, submit a report from the relevant profile, message, review, Guide Insight, Service, Referral or collaboration record. This helps GuideMeet locate the correct information.
A useful report should include:
- the account or content involved;
- what happened;
- relevant dates and links;
- screenshots or other lawful supporting information; and
- whether anyone faces an immediate risk.
GuideMeet may:
- acknowledge the report and create a case reference;
- preserve relevant Platform records;
- request more information;
- restrict contact while reviewing the matter;
- review reported content and relevant account information;
- contact the affected user;
- apply an appropriate moderation action; or
- refer a matter to an appropriate payment provider, professional body or authority where permitted or required.
Privacy, safety, legal and security requirements may prevent GuideMeet from sharing another user’s private information, internal methods or every detail of an investigation or outcome.
Reporting to GuideMeet does not replace contacting emergency services, police, rescue services, a payment provider or another competent authority when appropriate.
14. Moderation and Enforcement
GuideMeet may review reported profiles, messages, Services, reviews, Guide Insights, referrals, collaborations, images or patterns of behavior.
Depending on the seriousness, context, history and risk, GuideMeet may:
- provide education or a warning;
- request corrections or additional verification;
- hide, restrict or remove content;
- limit messaging, Inquiries or Guide Network actions;
- remove or expire a trust or visibility signal;
- suspend a profile or feature;
- temporarily restrict an account;
- permanently terminate an account;
- preserve relevant records; or
- refer a matter to an appropriate authority.
Serious or urgent cases may require immediate action without advance notice. Repeated conduct may lead to stronger action.
Where appropriate, an affected user may receive a reason and an opportunity to appeal. GuideMeet is not required to disclose information that would compromise another person’s privacy, Platform security or an investigation.
15. Guide Professional Standards
Guides should:
- use accurate and current profile information;
- work only within their lawful qualifications and competence;
- maintain required licences, permits, registrations and insurance;
- communicate honestly about availability, scope and limitations;
- provide clear and responsible information;
- distinguish opinions and estimates from confirmed facts;
- respect Travelers, other Guides and local communities;
- protect personal information;
- disclose material commercial relationships and conflicts;
- avoid spam, pressure and aggressive selling; and
- keep Traveler safety in mind.
Guides must not claim a licence, certification, destination, route, permit, insurance policy, safety capacity, rescue outcome or professional experience that they cannot honestly support.
Guides must also upload only images they own or are permitted to use publicly. They must not upload identity documents, private evidence or another person’s image without the required permission and lawful basis.
Guides remain independent professionals or businesses. They are not GuideMeet employees, agents, partners or representatives.
16. Traveler Safety Checklist
Before deciding to work with a Guide, Travelers should:
- read the complete Guide Profile;
- understand the meaning and date of any verification signal;
- review destinations, categories, specialties and languages;
- read eligible reviews and Guide Insights where available;
- ask clear questions through GuideMeet Messages;
- confirm who will actually provide the service;
- confirm scope, price, inclusions, exclusions and cancellation terms;
- confirm meeting details and emergency contacts;
- independently check material licences, permits or insurance where appropriate;
- be cautious about pressure, unusual payment instructions or unexplained changes;
- retain important confirmations and receipts; and
- use reporting tools if something feels suspicious.
For trekking, climbing, expedition, remote travel, wildlife, water, cycling, motor, aviation, high-altitude or other safety-sensitive activities, Travelers should also ask about:
- current route and weather conditions;
- altitude and physical demands;
- Guide qualifications for the specific activity;
- required equipment;
- permits and access restrictions;
- communications and backup arrangements;
- evacuation and rescue planning;
- insurance requirements and exclusions;
- medical preparation from an appropriate professional; and
- current official guidance.
17. Guide Safety Checklist
Guides should:
- review the Traveler’s stated requirements carefully;
- communicate genuine competence, availability and limitations;
- request only information reasonably necessary for the proposed arrangement;
- avoid collecting sensitive information through ordinary messages unless necessary and lawful;
- confirm emergency and contingency arrangements for safety-sensitive work;
- keep professional and payment records;
- avoid sharing Traveler information with another Guide without permission;
- use the structured Referral-consent process where available;
- decline work that is unlawful, unsafe or beyond competence; and
- report threats, scams, harassment or suspicious activity.
18. Travel Information and Changing Conditions
Routes, weather, altitude conditions, permits, borders, transport, protected-area rules, closures and local restrictions can change quickly.
Guide Profiles, Guide Insights, reviews, messages, AI-assisted output, translations and search results are provided for discovery and general information. Users should verify material, time-sensitive information with appropriate official authorities and qualified professionals.
GuideMeet does not guarantee that a Guide Insight or message remains current after it was posted. Time-sensitive safety content should include an observation date or relevant context where reasonably possible.
19. What GuideMeet Does Not Guarantee
GuideMeet supports Guide discovery, professional presentation, communication and eligible trust tools. Unless GuideMeet expressly states otherwise for a specific feature, GuideMeet does not guarantee:
- a Guide’s identity after a verification date;
- current licensing, permits or insurance;
- a Guide’s availability or conduct;
- compatibility between a Traveler and Guide;
- service quality or successful performance;
- weather, route or destination conditions;
- government permits, visas or entry rules;
- medical, evacuation or rescue outcomes;
- private payments or arrangements;
- statements made outside the Platform;
- a response to every report within a particular time; or
- a risk-free travel experience.
GuideMeet is not a travel agency, tour operator, Guide employer, transportation provider, accommodation provider, insurer, medical provider or rescue service unless separate feature-specific terms expressly state otherwise.
Image identifiers, metadata, hashing, CDN controls and access restrictions also do not guarantee that an image cannot be downloaded, copied, altered, screenshotted or reused.
20. Keeping GuideMeet Professional
GuideMeet is designed for professional Guide discovery, local Insights and direct communication. It is not a package-bidding marketplace, unrestricted social network or popularity contest.
Guides can build trust through accurate profiles, relevant credentials, useful Guide Insights, genuine reviews, responsible communication and lawful professional service.
Travelers can make better decisions by reviewing the complete profile, understanding what signals mean, asking specific questions and checking important details independently.
