About Ashish
I am Ashish Gurung, an IFMGA-certified International Mountain Guide from Sankhuwasabha, Nepal. My journey in the mountains began in 2010 when I started working as a kitchen boy and porter. My first expedition was on Mt. Manaslu, and I later worked in areas including Langtang and Annapurna Base Camp. These early experiences gave me the foundation to build a professional career in high-altitude mountaineering and guiding.
Over the years, I have worked on expeditions with climbers and teams from different countries, including many years working closely with Japanese climbers. I became an IFMGA-certified International Mountain Guide in 2022. My mountaineering experience includes five successful summits of Mt. Everest, three summits of Mt. Lhotse, six summits of Ama Dablam, and more than 50 successful summits of peaks above 6,000 metres. I have also worked extensively on Everest, Manaslu, Annapurna, and other major Himalayan expeditions.
Safety, technical preparation, and responsible decision-making are central to the way I guide. My training includes mountaineering, high mountain rescue, mountain medicine, wilderness first aid, rock climbing, and advanced mountaineering. I have also participated in difficult rescue and recovery operations at high altitude, including operations on Everest, Mera Peak, and Kongma La Pass.
Today, I work as a freelance IFMGA mountain guide and also share my experience through mountain instruction and training. I enjoy helping climbers and trekkers understand the mountains, prepare properly, manage the challenges of altitude, and experience the Himalayas with greater safety and confidence. For me, professional guiding is about much more than reaching a summit. It is about preparation, teamwork, judgment, respect for the mountains, and helping every guest return with a meaningful experience.
His documented expedition record includes five Everest summits, three Lhotse summits, six Ama Dablam summits, and over 50 successful summits of 6,000-metre peaks.
