I am Jasmardi, a local guide from Matotonan Village in South Siberut, Mentawai Islands. I have been guiding since 2014 and specialize in helping travelers experience the culture, rainforest and traditional way of life of the Mentawai people. My main guiding area is Siberut, including remote villages and the interior of the island. I organize multi-day jungle journeys such as 10-day and 9-night treks from Matotonan into remote areas, traveling through rainforest, rivers, traditional settlements and parts of the west coast. These trips can include camping, wildlife observation and trekking inside Siberut National Park. I work closely with local Sikerei, traditional Mentawai families and village communities. My goal is to introduce travelers to Mentawai traditions in a respectful way. Experiences can include staying with local families, learning about traditional tattoos, observing traditional hunting practices, seeing how sago is processed and understanding the relationship between the Mentawai people and the forest. Besides Siberut, I can also guide travelers on Sipora Island, North Pagai Island and South Pagai Island. I can arrange jungle trekking, cultural immersion, homestays and other local experiences across the Mentawai Islands. I speak Mentawai, Minang and Indonesian, as well as basic English. Because I live and work in remote areas of Mentawai, mobile signal is sometimes limited, especially while I am guiding in the interior. I hold professional local guide certification and HPI membership, and I have authorization for guiding activities inside the Siberut National Park area. I focus on cultural and trekking services rather than driving. I can also help arrange pickup and transfers to and from Minangkabau International Airport for travelers beginning or ending their Mentawai journey.
