About Mani
My name is Mani Kumar Rai, and I am an experienced mountain leader, trekking guide, outdoor professional and instructor from Solukhumbu, Nepal. I have spent more than 25 years working in Nepal’s adventure tourism and mountain guiding field. I began my journey in the mountains as a porter guide in 1994 and gradually developed my experience through years of trekking, guiding, leadership and professional mountain training.
Over the years, I have guided and led journeys across many of Nepal’s major trekking regions, including Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Langtang, Upper and Lower Dolpo, Upper Mustang and Dhorpatan. I also have experience in Tibet. This wide range of experience has given me a strong understanding of high-altitude environments, remote trails, changing mountain conditions, local communities and the practical needs of trekkers in different parts of the Himalayas.
My professional development has included training in trekking, rock climbing, mountaineering and mountain leadership. I am a certified UIMLA/NMLA Mountain Leader and have also worked as an instructor in mountain leadership training. Teaching and guiding have allowed me to share practical mountain knowledge while continuing to strengthen my own understanding of leadership, safety, preparation and responsible travel.
For me, mountain guiding is about much more than reaching a destination. A successful journey depends on preparation, good communication, understanding the abilities of each traveler, adapting to mountain conditions and maintaining a safe and supportive environment. I value patience, teamwork and responsible decision-making, especially when guiding in high-altitude or remote Himalayan regions.
I also enjoy sharing the cultural side of Nepal with travelers. The Himalayan regions are home to diverse ethnic communities, traditions, languages, religions and ways of life. As someone from Solukhumbu and the Thulung Rai community, I appreciate the importance of helping travelers understand the people and cultures they encounter along the trail.
My goal is to give travelers a professional, safe and meaningful Himalayan experience. Whether the journey is through Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, Dolpo, Mustang, Makalu, Kanchenjunga or another mountain region, I aim to combine practical leadership, local knowledge and many years of experience to help guests enjoy Nepal with confidence.
