About Sanjiv
Namaste! I am Sanjiv Shakya, an experienced tour guide from Nepal with 11 years of professional guiding experience. My main focus is cultural and heritage tourism, where I enjoy helping travelers discover the history, architecture, traditions, and living culture that make Nepal unique.
My guiding experience is centered on the historic cities of Bhaktapur, Patan, and Basantapur, three of the most important cultural areas in the Kathmandu Valley. These places offer travelers an opportunity to explore centuries of history, remarkable architecture, religious traditions, traditional neighborhoods, and the continuing cultural life of local communities.
I believe that cultural sightseeing becomes much more meaningful when travelers understand the stories behind the places they visit. Rather than simply showing visitors landmarks, I enjoy providing context about their history, architecture, traditions, and significance.
Through my experience as a guide, I have developed a strong appreciation for Nepal's living heritage. Ancient temples, courtyards, palaces, monuments, traditional streets, and religious sites are not simply historical attractions — many remain connected to everyday community life and longstanding cultural practices.
I enjoy creating tours that allow travelers to explore these places at a comfortable pace while learning about the people, traditions, and history that surround them. I am particularly interested in helping visitors notice the details that can easily be missed when exploring independently.
With 11 years of professional experience, I understand that travelers have different interests and expectations. Some may be fascinated by architecture and history, while others may be more interested in local traditions, religion, art, or everyday life. I aim to adapt my guiding style to make each experience engaging and informative.
I speak English and enjoy meeting travelers from different countries and sharing my knowledge of Nepal with them. My goal is to help visitors develop a deeper appreciation for the country's cultural heritage while enjoying a welcoming and memorable experience.
Whether you are interested in historic architecture, ancient traditions, religious heritage, local communities, or simply want to understand more about Nepal's fascinating cultural landscape, I look forward to helping you explore it through an authentic local perspective.
For me, guiding is about bringing history and culture to life — helping travelers not only see Nepal's heritage, but understand and appreciate the stories, traditions, and communities that continue to shape it.
